How to Create Footprint Illustration (Photoshop)

In this section we will introduce you how to create cute dented cat footprints.

We will use Photoshop [Layer Style] for the dented effect. This is easy for beginners too. Please try.

Open Photoshop and click [Layer > New Paint Bucket Layer > Paint Bucket]. Set the color white (#FFFFFF) and click OK.

Next, draw cat footprint.

Select [Custom Shape Tool] and click the right side of the shape in option bar (see above). Select [Animal] then [Cat Footprint].

Select [Fixation] in [Custom Shape Option] and input size. We set width 300px / height 300px in the example above. (Choose any size you like)

Click and cat foot prints will be drawn.

Draw two of them like the example above.

Edit the size and angle of the footprints.

Select [Move Tool] and check [Show Bounding Box] in the option bar.

Click the footprint and [Bounding Box] appears.

You can now expand, minify, rotate, and move the images freely.

Using [Bounding Box], we modified the footprints as shown above.

When you are done editing, union two layers for later tasks. (Select 2 layers in Layer Panel > Right Click > Union Layer).

Apply [Layer Style] on the footprints.

Select the unionized footprint layers. Click [Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay]. Change the draw color into #efefef.

Do not click OK yet.

Next, apply dented effect on the footprint.

Select [Bevel and Emboss] in [Layer Style] dialog box. Set like above.

When done setting, click OK.

Emboss is applied on footprints and you have dented effect. This little touch brings stereoscopic effect.

You can add various effects using Photoshop layer style. Try different ones and explore.
