In this section we will introduce you how to create a retro photo in Photoshop.
Take a look at the picture above. The bluish tone gives a retro impression.
You can modify photos in various way in Photoshop. You can take any normal picture to transform into a stylish poster or a CD cover.
Start Photoshop with a picture you have.
First, we change the color balance of the whole picture.
Open [Color Balance] in Color Correction Panel (Window > Color Correction). Set the gradation in the middle using the example above. (The value differs depending on the photo. Set the color yellowish using the example above.)
Next, we add redness to the picture.
Select [Tone Curve] in Color Correction Panel. Change the Tone Curve Dialog RGB red and raise the curve up a little. (You can select any red you like.)
The photo now has reddish tone. You can adjust single color tones such as red, green, and blue with Tone Curve.

Fill the layer blue [Layer > New Fill > Fill].
We used light blue #0066ff this time.
Blend the blue layer with the photo below.
Select the blue layer and set the generate mode [Burn Color] and the opacity 50%. (You can adjust the opacity ratio.)
The blue layer blended in with the photo and now the picture looks retro. This already looks good but we add a little more twist.

We add some noise to add some texture to the photo.
Click [Filter > Noise > Add Noise]. Set the setting in the [Add Noise] dialog using the example above. Too much noise would make it look fake. The key is to add only adequate amount.
We insert text at the bottom and it’s done.
It looks retro and nice. You could use it for posters and CD covers by adding texts.
The indent is centered and it makes the whole image looks stylish and enhance the blue sea landscape.
