In this section we will introduce you how to create a pop speech balloon illustration. To make it look pop, I made the shape cloud and applied lining and shadow.
For the basic technique of how to create a speech balloon, please refer to How to create a balloon speech illustration (Illustrator).
First, we will create the cloud shaped part of the balloon.
Randomly draw circles using Eclipse Tool as shown above.
You can draw it by dragging while pressing Shift key. Draw different sized circles randomly. It does not matter even if you leave the middle blank.
Next, select all the circles and click union in Pathfinder (Window > Pathfinder).
The circles are unionized and form a path.
Fill in the blank. Draw any path to hide the blank with Pen Tool (see above). Select all again, unionize with Pathfinder.
Now you’ve got a cloud! It was very easy.
Next, draw the triangle part using Pen Tool. Draw it according to your size and shape preference.
Unionize the triangle and cloud with [Pathfinder > Unionize].
The balloon base is completed.
Next, we start modifying the balloon to make it look pop.
Set the fill white (#FFFFFF) and the line gray (#E8EDED). Open Line Panel (Window > Line) and set the line size 10pt.
The thick lining makes it look pop.
Next, create the balloon shadow. Select the balloon, drag it to top-left while pressing Alt-key. The balloon is copied on top-left.
Select the bottom layer, set the colors Fill: Dark Gray (#868787) no line and create the shadow. Adjust the placement of the shadow at the end.
The pop speech balloon illustration is completed by adding text!
Round gothic font is ideal for the design. The color should be bright too.
The technique was easy but you will often use this design parts. It can be used for brochures, posters, banner, and so on. It would be convenient to have it in stock for whenever you might need one.
