In this section we will introduce you how to create maple leaf illustration in Illustrator.
In fall, the leaves get colored. As well as the chestnut illustration we introduced in the previous tutorial, the colored leaves remind you of fall.
This maple leaf illustration is very simple but can be used in various ways, such as brush and patterns.
Draw ovals like above, switch top and bottom anchor points, steeple them and expand top anchor points up.
Keep selecting the object, click [Rotate Tool], click the most bottom anchor point of the object (Alt + Click), set the value and click copy.
We will copy and paste two more times. Press (Ctrl + D) twice and create the maple leaf side.
We have created half of the leaf but it does not look very beautiful. Do not transform the most top object but do so with other three like the example above.
*Try making the objects in the bottom smaller so that it would look more like a maple leaf.
Keep selecting the three objects except the top one. Select [Reflect Tool] and click the anchor point where three anchor points are overlapping (Alt+Click). Set the setting like above.
Now we have a maple leaf.
Draw a rectangle using [Rounded Rectangle Tool] like above. Set the value with [Effect > Warp > Arc]. Apply curve on the stick and divide the appearance.
Now we have the maple leaf illustration. The leaf is a simple design but it is easy to apply colors and gradient on it.
I applied different colors on the leaves. They are classic colors but they stand out on the simple maple design.
You can arrange leaves as they are falling like in the section How to Create Cherry Blossom Illustration using “Blend Tool”.
