How to Create Transparent Mosaic Pattern (Photoshop)

In this section we will introduce you how to create the transparent mosaic background in Photoshop. This is a mysterious mosaic pattern background. This is a so-called abstract. Photoshop is ideal for creating abstract backgrounds.

The technique is very easy. This is complete by easy steps Gradient > Filter Pressing > Edge Highlight

Step01 Create Circle Gradient

First, create circle gradient.

Select [Layer > New Fill Layer > Gradient] and apply the setting above. Do not click OK.

Step02 Gradient Setting

Click [Gradient] and open the gradient editor. Apply the setting above.

We used the blue gradient in the example.

Step03 Rasterizing

Rasterize the fill for the next task.

Click [Layer > Rasterize > Fill].

Step04 Extruding

Next, select [Filter > Technique > Extrude].

Apply the setting above in the dialog box.

Step05 Mosaic Background Completed

The mosaic background is completed in a blink!

This was easy, wasn’t it? Lastly we adjust the edge part of the image.

Step06 Highlight Edge

Select [Filter > Brush Stroke > Edge Highlight].

Apply the setting above in [Highlight Edge] screen. Add brightness and smoothness to the edge.

Step07 Mosaic Background Edge Turned Smooth!

[Edge Highlight] is applied and the edge part of the mosaic turned smooth!

Done!

This was easy, wasn’t it? The key factor in this tutorial is [Extrude] and [Edge Highlight].
