In this section we will introduce you how to create the snow crystal Christmas frame.
This looks like a cut-out paper craft. Use the tutorial How to Create Snow Crystal Illustration without Using Pen Tool as a reference, create a snow crystal illustration and a frame in Illustrator and create a paper texture in Photoshop.
The key factors in this tutorial are creating a frame (Illustrator) and making a paper texture/shadow (Photoshop). It might look complicated but you can create a fantastic Christmas frame at the end. Please try.
Use the tutorial How to Create Snow Crystal Illustration without Using Pen Tool as a reference, create each part.
Apply an existing brush on the straight line. You can create different kinds of crystals by modifying the path shapes or adding/subtracting circles from the crystal.
These are the snow crystals I created. Turn the color the same as the frame in the next step.
The sized we create in this tutorial are [Large: 800 x 600], [Small: 720 x 520].
First, draw a rectangle in the desired size and draw a smaller one inside. Arrange the midpoints of the two rectangles together.
Create frame by [Select Two > Pathfinder > Minus Front/Subtract].
Frame is disabled for a better view.
Keep displaying the frame. Copy and paste each parts and arrange them while adjusting the sizes to the canvas.
Create the same sized new file in Photoshop. Select all the crystals and the frame, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) it on the new file in Photoshop.
For the later task, put them in the same folder.
Apply paper texture to the crystals and the frame created in Illustrator.
Double click the folder created in Step04, open Layer Style, and select <Pattern Overlay>. Apply the value above.
We will create stereoscopic effect with Drop Shadow. Apply the setting above.
The regular illustration now has the paper texture and 3-D effect. Now you have the Christmas frame.
You can complete it by adding texts.
It looks better with just the frame.
We created a beautiful Christmas frame with the combination of Illustrator and Photoshop.
You can also apply other Christmas colors or arrange symbols differently and create different variations.
Be creative and explore.
