I will introduce how to draw a four-leaf clover illustration using Illustrator.
It seems like it can be used for a variety of things such as scenery, logos, illustrators, and small design accents.
The work flow for making an illustration of a four-leaf clover is to first prepare a base for the clover using a heart shape, rotate and copy it, draw a stem, and then it is finished.
First, draw the heart that will be the base for the four-leaf clover’s leaf. There are a variety of methods for drawing the heart, such as How to Create the Simple Heart without using Pencil Tool (Illustrator), but this time I will introduce how to draw out a heart with the brush tool.
Using the pen tool, draw a straight line.
Apply the brush on the line you drew.
Open the brush panel (Window→Brush), and click [Click the upper-right→Open the brush library→Ornament→Ornament_Scatter].
Click the heart on the [Ornament_Scatter Panel].
The heart is applied to the line.
From the line that had the brush applied to it, draw out one heart which will become the base for the clover leaf.
Select the line that had the heart applied to it, and click and separate [Object→Appearance]. (About separating the appearance, please try referring to What’s the “appearance” and what does it mean to divide it?)
Continuing that, cancel the group. Because the heart brush makes 2 groups, cancel the group twice.
Select the object that had its appearance separated. and click left click→cancel group. Select the object once more and click left click→cancel group.
The grouped hearts have one-by-one become separated. From the hearts that have become separated, pick up the heart that is not inclined. It doesn’t matter if you delete the remaining hearts.
As well, because an outline will be applied to the heart, continue without a green outline.
Separate the transparent part.
Select the heart and click [Object→Separate/Integrate the transparent part].
Set the options like how it is done above and click OK.
Change the heart colour and size and make the base for the clover leaves.
Make the size larger and apply a green colour. Just choose a heart size and colour you like. Because this heart will become the base for the clover leaf, please change the size to something you imagine the finished clover should have.
Though it can be used a clover leaf while as a heart, amend the shape a little.
Select the heart and click the anchor point addition tool.Using the anchor point addition tool, click 2 points like in the above picture and add anchor points.
Continuing that, with the heart selected, click the anchor point deletion tool.
Using the anchor point deletion tool, click the the tip of of the heart. When you do that, the tip of the heart will have its anchor point deleted, and the tip of the heart will become round.
With that, one clover leaf is finished. After rotating and copying, finish the clover.
Rotate and copy one leaf and transform into a clover shape.
Select the leaf and click [Effect→Path transform→Transform].
Using the transform effect dialogue, enter values as shown above. Please don’t forget to put in a check below for point of reference.
After rotating and copying one leaf, a four-leaf clover illustration is finished!
Separate the appearance.
After drawing a stem below the leaf with the pen tool, it is finished.
A simple four-leaf clover illustration has been finished!
A three-leaf clover illustration is also simple.
If you change the values of the transform effect in Step10, a three-leaf clover illustration is finished.
Similarly, by changing the copy number and rotation angle, it is possible to freely change the amount of leaves.
A simple clover leaf illustration has been finished!
It is also pleasant to be able to change the leaf number using the transform effect, isn’t it?
By all means, please try this.
