In this section we will introduce you how to create a stylish packaging design in Illustrator.
This design is inspired by fresh greenery. This technique is simple, the background is made by the Rectangle Tool and the leaves and the bird are drawn by the Pen Tool. The bird was traced from a picture as its shape is complicated.
First, draw the background.
Create random rectangles using the Rectangle Tool. Arrange the colors alternately using the example above.
We have used green this time but you can also make beautiful designs with blue or pink. It is a recent trend in design to arrange similar colors randomly.
When the background in completed, select all and group (Right Click -> Group)it.
Lock the grouped layer with the [Layer Panel] (Window -> Layer) (see above).
By locking the background, it becomes easier to do the rest of the tasks.
Draw leaves with the Pen Tool.
Using the example from the outline above, draw leaves without a line by the Pen Tool. Fill it with white (#FFFFFF).
Arrange the leaves drawn in Step03 on the background.
We are almost there. It will be completed with the bird and the text.
Next, we draw the bird.
You can draw a bird directly with the Pen Tool, however, as the shape seems complicated, we trace from a picture instead. Get any bird picture. It is easier to trace a picture with clear outline.
Now we trace the bird.
Enlarge the image for a better view, trace the outline of the bird with the Pen Tool.
We will use it only for an accent of the packaging so you do not need a precise trace. A rough trace would do.
Now you have the bird shape! (We are using an international free font.)
We are almost there, now we do some adjustments and place the bird.
Fill the bird with white (#FFFFFF), make it lineless, and reflex it (Reflect Tool).
Minimize it in accordance to the design and arrange it on the leaf.
The design is completed by inserting text.
The background random green colors and outlined pictures give a good contrast.
This could be a stylish packaging for green tea.
