In this section we will introduce you how to create a floral background in Photoshop.
Here we have a cute pattern with symmetric flowers placed alternately. You could use it for different design backgrounds.
Brief steps for this tutorial are, (1) create a part of the pattern, (2) define, and (3) apply paint bucket on the background. You can do this relatively easily once you know how, let’s try it together!
Firstly, we create a part of the pattern. Since this is only a part of the whole, we make the canvas size small.
Start Photoshop, set the canvas size with the width 150 pixel and the height 100 pixel in the “New” dialog box.
Enlarge the Photoshop display so that it is easier to work on. (Ctrl + Space + Click)
Once enlarged, click [Color] of the tool panel, set the color #f6447b.
Next, we select a floral pattern. This time we use an ornament in the Custom Shape.
Select [Custom Shape] in the tool panel (press the Rectangle Tool for a long time).
Click [Create Filled Region] in the option bar ((1) above), then click [Custom Shape Option] ((2) above).Check fixation W:40px, H:40px [from midpoint].
Next, click [open custom shape picker by clicking] in the option bar (See above), select [Click Triangle -> Ornament -> Ornament (flower) 4].
Click and drag the ornament (flower) selected in Step05. Place it using the example above.
Place the ornaments (flowers) 4 using the example above. (Place them like the midpoint of the flowers are shaping a triangle.)
Clip the arranged ornaments.
Select the [Clipping Tool] in the tool panel, click and drag it and adjust the selected region. (Hide the half parts of the two bottom flowers by adjusting.)
When you have a selected region, double click to define. (Make sure that the half parts of the two bottom flowers are hidden)
Now you have a part of the floral pattern!
Define the pattern you have created.
Click [Edit -> Define Pattern] and type any name. (In the example, I typed flower01.)
Open a new canvas to apply the pattern.
Set the canvas W:800 x H:600 in the [New] dialog box. Click OK.
Now we apply the pattern on the new canvas.
Click [Edit -> Fill] and open the [Fill] dialog box. Modify the use to pattern, click the [flower 01] pattern we have just created.
The pattern is applied on the canvas!
This is how you apply a floral pattern in Photoshop. The pattern is completed but let’s try to change the color.
You can change the color by sliding the slider in [Color Correction Panel] (Window -> Color Correction) -> [Saturation-Hue].
Choose any desired color by adjusting the slider.
Now we have a cute floral pattern!
This time we have created a pattern of alternately placed symmetric flowers. There are various ways to create patterns in Photoshop.
We are going to show more ways of creating patterns soon, stay tuned.
